It’s not just some sport. 

Korra! I gotta admit — going into The Legend of Korra I was somewhat nervous initially concerning this was the esteemed follow-up to the acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender series. I always thought it was an amazing show with fluid animations and perfect hitting comic relief, although I never did find the time to watch every single episode; I only did see the first book or two. My instincts told me to ignore this, however, and I’m glad they did because I felt as if I did not miss a single beat watching this wonderful start of a sequel.

Really though, let me just be plain and proper here. I don’t want to talk about the show primarily even though from my standpoint I indeed found it whimsical in all of its martial art glory… what I really want to talk about is Korra, who the title was named after. Korra came off to me as a pristine breathe of fresh air — I mean, this is another one of those hard-headed female protagonists we’re talking about! Like Samus Aran… before Other M came around. Korra is strong, diligent, notably a tomboy (subjectively a good thing for me), and humanistic enough to relate to as a teenager wanting to enjoy the best things about life. 

Though despite the fact that she was such a powerful lead, the writers and animators did an excellent job giving her a sort of equilibrium. A nice even balance between being really powerful and vulnerable to her feelings, and the main antagonist Amon. Witnessing Amon strike all the fear in Korra was almost something I couldn’t bare. I mean through the thick of the horror, there were many, many times were I yielded the feeling of wanting to protect Korra, like her friends and beg the antagonists to stop. She was arrogant at times, but not so obnoxious that I wanted to see her writhe in pain. It was enough to make me turn my head… seriously! All in all — the writers did a magnificent job with this character  and I definitely be looking forward to next tale that chronicles this woman’s life. 

And you better deal with it, creators. Because I’m waiting patiently.

Bolin makes everything a lot more enjoyable.
